The Serengeti’s iconic Retina Hippo Pool, located in Central Serengeti near Seronera, is a spectacular stop during your full-day game drive. It’s one of the few spots where you can step out of the vehicle and safely view hippos on foot, often seeing up to 200 hippos in one pool. The area also attracts crocodiles, elephants, baboons, and colorful waterbirds—making it a captivating and immersive wildlife experience. Best visited during the dry season (July–November), when hippo numbers are dense and visibility is high.

Morning:

6:00 AM – Hotel pickup (e.g. Seronera)

7:00–8:00 AM – Game Drive en route to Hippo Pool, spotting lions, giraffes, buffalo, and antelope in Seronera Valley

8:30 AM – Arrive at Retina Hippo Pool; guided walk to observation area and optional stroll near the pool
